Fundraiser to Benefit Tim Kelly & Family
Most of you know Tim Kelly as a past NEIPP Instructor and from his various
educational DVDs. Tim has been a friend of New England for many years and he
has always answered the call, when asked for a donation to our state and
regional scholarship raffles.
Unfortunately, the time has come where Tim and his family need our help. Tim's wife, Mitzi, was diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer in July 2012 and while dealing with her illness and care, Tim's airway became afflicted with an extremely rare condition of bi-lateral vocal cord paralysis, causing Tim's airway to become 80% restricted, making breathing nearly impossible. You can read more about the Kellys journey at: http://www.giveforward.com/letshelptimkelly.
In an effort to help Tim and his family through this difficult time, PPAM has organized a fundraiser to help them with their medical expenses while providing donors with an opportunity to win some fantastic prizes. Only 75 tickets will be sold at a cost of $100 each. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. Each doner entry will be entered into a drawing for an opportunity to win one of four great prizes listed below:

ROBERT A. FRESON
Born in Belgium in 1926 where I completed my early education. Studied at the College St. Pierre in Brussels until 1944 during the German Occupation of the World War II.
Joined the British Royal Navy, as a volunteer, between 1944 and 1945.
Went to l’Ecole des Arts et Metiers in Vevey, Switzerland to study photography for nearly 3 years. Got a Master degree in Photography.
Immigrated to the USA late in 1948 and got my first job in New York working with the late Irving Penn. First at the Vogue Studios and later with him at the PENN Studio, as the manager; for a total of 13 years.
An incredible experience which taught me a lot more than a School of Photography could ever do.
It opened the world in my field of Photo-Journalism. In 1962 I started working on my own, for LOOK Magazine (sadly gone!!) Vogue, ESQUIRE,
The Ladies ‘Home Journal, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC MAGAZINE and BOOKS,Conde Nast TRAVELER, Gourmet, Cuisine, House&Garden, etc…
I got the chance to work also in Europe for the best Photo-Journalism magazines of the time: THE LONDON SUNDAY TIMES magazine and The TELEGRAPH WEEKEND Magazine in England. For MATCH and MARIE CLAIRE in France, STERN and TWENN in Germany, EPOCA in Italy and many other publications all over the World.
Many of the assignments I did for those publications were re-used, later, by American Magazines!
For more than 40 years I had a studio in Carnegie Hall in New York City and I would constantly commute between Europe and the USA taking advantage of my knowledge of French and some other languages.
I even kept sets of photo equipment on both side of the Atlantic.
But I do not want to minimize the Advertising jobs I did for the US Army, JAMAICA, Bermuda, Haiti, the Bahamas and the Philip Morris products etc. And a lot more in Europe.
These jobs made it financially possible to accept very interesting, if less well paid editorial jobs from my favorite magazines.
I received over 60 Art Director’s awards in New York (including a Gold Medal in N.Y for the best Ads. of the year), Chicago, London, Germany.
3 Awards from A.N.D.Y Award of Merit for Advertising.
Award of Merit from the D.D. & A. Designer and Art Directors Association of England.
Certificate of Special Merit of Typography for outstanding example of Graphic Arts.
Several awards from A.I.G.A. American Institute of Graphic Arts.
Certificate of Excellence from “Part of the 50 Best Creative’s in Print”.
Award of excellence from the “Communication Arts Institute” in New York.
And probably others in Europe??
Over several years I put together 4 major books on Gastronomy with the work that I had done on that subject in the following countries.
In 1982, “THE TASTE OF FRANCE” still being re-edited by Harry Abrams and sold, so far, over 275.000 copies in 6 different languages (Glen Fiddich Award in the UK and Chevalier de la Gastronomie Francaise, Cognac, Prix de la Literature des Relays Gourmands). Still available.
In 1987, “SAVORING ITALY” in USA and several foreign editions as well but now out of prints (except as available through the Internet!).
It also received the Glen Fiddich Award and several Merit Awards.
In 1993 “DET GODA SVERIGE” only in the Swedish version so far?
In 2003? A book with Patricia Wells (a great authority on French food) for her book “AT HOME IN PROVENCE” done under her supervision at her
lovely estate in Provence. Still available in English and French.
I took part of several other books but not as the exclusive photographer.
A very rich live that gave me the chance to photograph many celebrities from Pope Jean-Paul, King Faisal in Saudi Arabia, the American Queen NOOR in Jordan (wife of King Hussein) President Eisenhower at his farm in Gettysburg after his retirement (for 2 of his books) many movie stars (Sophia Loren for instance, Anouk Aimee, Omar Shariff, Kim Novak, Bianca Jagger, Lauren Bacall), famous authors (Paul Bowles, Bill Burroughs, George Axelrod, W.H. Auden, etc.) and many Artists (Chagall, Miro, Dali, Soulages, Giacometti, Joan Mitchell, David Hockney, etc)
Now I am working on special personal projects and going over my archives to separate the most exciting images of my careers and organizing them for eventual books. My main endeavour is to find a suitable Institution (Museum, University, Foundation?) that could take over all my work.
By the way, I became a United States Citizen in 1952 and never regretted it.
The USA gave me the opportunity and a career I would have never found in Belgium, especially in 1950!!
You will not want to miss this! :)
